Keep Austin Curly: Where Curls Thrive and Community Grows
Back in 2020, Tribeza celebrated Jasmin Todd as a mover and shaker in Austin’s creative scene. Since then, her journey has unfolded into something even more inspiring. Let’s explore how Jasmin’s vision has shaped Austin Curls into a thriving hub for curls and community.
A Fresh Start in Austin
In 2019, Jasmin Todd, a seasoned celebrity hairstylist from Southern California, sought more than the hustle and glamour of Beverly Hills. She yearned for balance, connection, and a sense of community. Her search led her to Austin, where she found a city that reminded her of her California roots with its creative, progressive vibe. Working alongside a retiring Ouidad-certified stylist, Jasmin refined her expertise in curly and natural hair, setting the stage for a new chapter.
Reflecting on the move, Jasmin shared, “I was searching for peace and happiness, and I feel so blessed to have found it here.”
The Birth of Austin Curls
By 2020, Jasmin had transformed an inherited clientele into her very own salon, Austin Curls, an Ouidad Certified Salon dedicated to celebrating curly and natural hair. Her mission was clear: to help clients embrace their unique textures and love the hair they were born with. As she often says, “Hair speaks to who you are, where you’ve been, where you’re headed, and what you want in life.”
Growth and Community
Under Jasmin’s leadership, Austin Curls flourished. The salon grew into a vibrant team of four stylists, two assistants, an in-house esthetician, and its beloved mascot, Chowder the Standard Poodle, who brings smiles to everyone who walks through the door.
In July 2024, Austin Curls celebrated the grand opening of its flagship location in Steiner Ranch. The event buzzed with excitement, offering complimentary consultations, collaborations with local partners, and a welcoming atmosphere that underscored the salon’s mission of curly hair empowerment. Jasmin’s family played a central role, with her sister as the salon coordinator and her mom serving drinks, sharing laughs, and selling handmade jewelry. Jasmin beamed, “This space isn’t just a salon; it’s a sanctuary where people come together to celebrate their natural beauty.”
Giving Back
Jasmin’s passion for hairstyling is matched by her dedication to the community. One of her proudest partnerships is with SAFE Austin, where she provides free haircuts to survivors of trafficking and domestic abuse. She also hosts educational sessions, including Hanzo and Ouidad classes, empowering both clients and stylists. Whether mentoring future natural curl artists or helping cosmetology students achieve their licenses, Jasmin’s commitment to education and opportunity shines brightly.
The Austin Curls Experience
At Austin Curls, every client experience is designed to feel luxurious and personal. From tailored curl care to a warm, family-like environment, the salon is a haven for those with natural curls. Jasmin’s belief is simple yet profound: “Education is the key to exceptional curl care and confidence.” Her goal is to equip clients with the tools and knowledge they need to maintain healthy, happy curls at home.
Looking Ahead
As a Beauty by Imagine educator, Jasmin has big plans for the future. She aims to expand Austin Curls, host public speaking engagements, and deepen her nonprofit work. Her vision includes helping disadvantaged youth explore careers in cosmetology through education, mentorship, and community-driven projects.
No matter where her journey takes her, Jasmin remains deeply connected to the clients, stylists, and community that make Austin Curls a cornerstone of curly hair empowerment.
